Shatter

The extraction of Shatter has become somewhat of an art form in recent years. Extracted oils maintain their viscosity and clarity, allowing them to be poured and set like stained glass. Shatter generally has a THC concentration of 70%+, making it extremely potent. As a result, we do not recommend Shatter for first-time Cannabis users.

At SacredMeds, we offer a wide variety of Concentrates, including Shatter, to help you find the experience that best suits your needs.

What is Shatter?

Cannabis Shatter is a type of cannabis concentrate known for its glass-like consistency and high potency. It is typically made by extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis using solvents like butane (in BHO, or Butane Hash Oil extraction). The resulting extract is processed into a hard, brittle substance that shatters easily, where it gets its name.

Shatter has a high THC content, often ranging from 60% to 90%, making it a very potent option for experienced users. Due to its purity and concentration, shatter is used for dabbing, where small amounts are vaporized using a dab rig, producing a clean, potent vapour that provides intense effects quickly.

Key characteristics of shatter include:

  1. Appearance: Shatter is typically golden or amber and has a glassy, translucent texture. It is fragile and can break into pieces like glass, which makes it easy to handle in small doses.
  2. Potency: As a concentrate, shatter contains high levels of THC, usually far more concentrated than flower, providing powerful effects with smaller amounts.
  3. Flavour and Aroma: The extraction process preserves much of the cannabis’s natural terpenes, resulting in a flavorful and aromatic experience. Shatter can be very flavourful, with tastes and smells ranging from earthy and herbal to fruity or citrusy.
  4. Usage: Shatter is most commonly used for dabbing, a method of vaporizing concentrates at high temperatures using a dab rig. It can also be added to joints, bowls, or even edibles for a stronger effect.

Shatter is popular among cannabis connoisseurs due to its purity, potency, and fast onset of effects, making it a go-to choice for those looking for a more intense cannabis experience. However, its high THC content means it is recommended for experienced users, as it can be overwhelming for those new to cannabis.

History of Shatter

Shatter, like Budder, are both relatively new forms of Cannabis concentrate. They both trace their lineage back to the original methods of producing hash. However, most modern processes were developed in the late 90’s. It was then that Shatter was first created and marketed. It was introduced by the same inventor of Budder, Canadian Cannabis Concentrator BudderKing, and became available in dispensaries in 2003.

Within a few short years, the methods of producing Shatter were published in Cannabis Culture Magazine. This brought Shatter instant widespread fame. By 2010, it had become a household name amongst Cannabis Concentrate users.
