What are Concentrates?

Concentrates are made by either isolating or extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from Cannabis Flower, and concentrating them into their active form. Though there are many different methods for isolation and extraction, the process generally uses a combination of pressure and solvents to separate the active ingredients. As a result, you’re left with a substance that is rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, but free of biomass (organic vegetation).

You have no doubt seen the tiny hairs that cover the Cannabis plant before, they give it a crystal-like shine and are generally quite sticky. These tiny hairs are actually glands called Trichomes, and they are responsible for producing cannabinoids and terpenes. Concentrates isolate these compounds and concentrate them, providing a higher potency and fuller flavour. In fact, Concentrates can reach a potency of up to 95% THC and higher, while also packing in an array of flavours and effects from a high terpene profile.

What are the different types of Concentrates?

There are a wide variety of Cannabis Concentrates available today. They vary in type, consistency and use, so it’s important to do some research before choosing the Concentrate that is right for your own experience. Non-active forms of concentrate need to be heated to release their effects. Concentrates with active cannabinoids can be used in their raw form, often infused into edibles, tinctures and topicals.

BHO

Butane Hash Oil (BHO) refers to any Cannabis concentrate that is extracted using butane as a solvent. Butane is renowned in extracting for its purity, price and effectiveness. Once the extraction is completed, the oil is winterized, a short freezing process, to ensure that all Cannabinoids and Terpenes remain intact. This makes BHO’s ideal for smoking and vaping

Budder

Budder is a Cannabis Concentrate typically made using propane or butane in the extraction process. Once the oil is extracted it is quickly whipped to give it a lighter and fluffier texture. This also causes the THCA in the oil to harden and crystallize. As a result, you are left with a waxy malleable concentrate that is perfect for smoking, vaping or dabbing

Diamonds

Diamonds are a crystalline form of Cannabis Concentrate and are comprised of 99% pure THCA. They offer the purest and strongest possible Cannabis experience. THCA is ordinarily an inactive Cannabinoid, however, once heated to extreme temperatures, the THCA is converted directly into THC. As a result, Diamonds are recommended for only experienced Cannabis users.

Distillate

Distillates are one of the purest ways to enjoy Cannabis. Once the Cannabis oil is extracted, it goes though a rigorous refining process that separates the Cannabinoids from the other materials. The isolated Cannabinoid, either THC or CBD can reach levels of up to 98% purity. The end result is an extremely potent liquid that can be smoked, vaped or eaten.

Live Resin

Live Resin is a Concentrate made using fresh Cannabis that hasn’t been dried or cured. Instead, it’s flash frozen to preserve the full flavour profile of the strain, as well as maintaining the terpene bill. This process was developed to ensure that no flavours, aromas or terpenes were lost during the curing process. As a result, Live Resin is one of the more flavourful concentrates

Rosin

Rosin the only Cannabis Concentrate that is made without the use of solvents. Instead, they rely on the naturally occurring solvents found in the terpenes. Even without the use of solvents, the Cannabinoids and terpenes extracted during the making of Rosin typically have a THC concentration of 90%+, making it a favourite of discerning Cannabis Concentrate users.

RSO

Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is an extremely potent Cannabis Concentrate that uses ethanol in its extraction process. As a result, the end product is thick, with a molasses like consistency. RSO can be used as a topical or an edible, making it perfect for treating skin conditions or for pain relief. Often referred to as Phoenix Tears, RSO is named for its creator, Rick Simpson.

Sauce

Sauce is one of the more flavourful Cannabis Concentrates, due in part to a very pronounced terpene profile. Its consistency varies from a golden like syrup to a more gritty, unfiltered honeycomb. In most instances, Sauce is packed with small crystals of concentrated THC. As a result of this combination, its effects can vary slightly from use to use.

Shatter

The extraction of Shatter has become somewhat of an art form in recent years. Extracted oils maintain their viscosity and clarity, allowing them to be poured and set, like stained glass. Shatter generally has a THC concentration of 90%+ making it extremely potent. As a result, we do not recommend Shatter for first time Cannabis users.
