The most important thing to remember when using Cannabis Edibles is that every Cannabis user has a different tolerance level. Some users need as little as 1-2mg to feel the effects, even if they are regular smokers. However, some users may require much larger doses to achieve similar effects. In addition, tolerance levels may increase with more frequent use, requiring higher doses to provide the same effects.
For your safety and security, we have prepared a Safety Guide to dosing and choosing the right Cannabis Edibles for you.
Cannabis Edible Dosage Guide
First Time User (Novice)
If this is your first time with a Cannabis Edible, even if you smoke cannabis frequently, we recommend that you start with a dose of 1-5mg of THC. With the use of all Cannabis products, we recommend that you “start low and go slow.” In other words, start with a low dosage and slowly bring your levels up. This is a great way to determine your tolerance and ensure that you don’t take more THC than you need. While a 5mg dose might not seem like a lot, it is an excellent judge of your tolerance levels. After that, you can increase the dosage until you find the number that is right for you.
Occasional User (Intermediate)
If you already have experience with Cannabis Edibles, it is safe to start with a dose of 10-15mg of THC. Again, we recommend “starting low and going slow”, or, starting with 10mg and working your way up until you find the right level that works for you. In most cases, 20mg of THC can be a lot for one person. However, some users may find it isn’t enough. Remember to listen to your body and not try to increase your doses too quickly.
Frequent User (Advanced)
For those who are well versed in the way of Cannabis Edibles, we recommend starting with a dos of 20-25mg of THC. Again, this is just a starting point, and doses can be increased over time. Higher doses of THC are usually reserved for experienced users or medical patients. However, it is not uncommon for Cannabis Edibles to be consumed in doses of 50-100mg of THC, based on the user’s tolerance.
Tips For Using Cannabis Edibles
Patience
In most cases, the effects of Cannabis edibles can be felt 30-45 minutes after consumption. However, in some cases, effects can take upwards of 2 hours. As a result, it is crucial to be patient and allow the dibble as much time as possible to take effect.
The most common mistake users make with edibles is increasing their dosage (taking more edibles) before the initial edibles have had a chance to take effect. Remember, if you “start low and go slow”, you can avoid the possibility of having a negative experience.
Know Your Dosage
If the package your edibles came in does not clearly display the THC content, or if the serving size is unclear, you may want to consider a different product. Monitoring dosages is very important in ensuring the quality of your edibles experience. Most packages should not only have a total THC mg listed, but THC per serving as well.
Allergies
Many edibles contain allergens that can cause serious reactions in some users. Tree nuts, peanuts, soy, dairy and gluten are all common ingredients in edibles. While it is important to make sure you know the dosages on your edible’s packaging, the ingredients can play just as big a part in ensuring a positive experience.
Storage
First and foremost, Cannabis Edibles should always be stored out of reach of children or pets, preferable in a locked drawer or cabinet. No minors or animals should ever consume edibles for any reason. In addition, making sure they are kept in a cool, dry place will increase their shelf life and maintain their quality.
Effects of Cannabis Edibles
The Effects of Cannabis Edibles are very different than those of smoked Cannabis. For starters, smoked Cannabis usually takes effect with 5-15 minutes and lasts for 45 – 60 minutes. When using Cannabis Edibles, the effects could take upwards of 2 hours to set in, and last upwards of 4 hours. It is important to remember this information when consuming edibles to ensure the most positive experience possible for each user.
Do Not Mix With Alcohol
Combining Cannabis Edibles with alcohol or other controlled substances can seriously alter their effects. It is always recommended that you do not consume Cannabis Edibles while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Do Not Drive
In no circumstances should you ever operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of Cannabis or Cannabis Edibles. The penalty for doing so is the same as those of a DUI and you could lose your license. Cannabis Edibles can decrease your reaction time and perception, which can seriously impede your ability to drive safely.
